Alka Sadat is an award-winning Afghan documentary filmmaker whose work explores war, social injustice, human rights, and the lives of people living through conflict. She co-founded Roya Film House with her sister, filmmaker Roya Sadat.

Her films have been screened and recognized internationally, receiving numerous awards at international film festivals, including the Public Liberties & Human Rights Award at the Al Jazeera International Documentary Film Festival, Generation DOK, Women’s Voices Now, and a Gold Remi Award at WorldFest-Houston. In 2022, she received the Emmeline Pankhurst Lifetime Achievement Award. Her notable films include Half Value Life, Afghanistan Night Stories, 1,2,3?, and A Woman Sings in the Desert. Her films have also been presented at major international festivals, including IDFA.

Alka is also a co-producer of The Sharp Edge of Peace, a highlighted film at Hot Docs 2024. She has collaborated with the United Nations on human rights films, and her work has been broadcast internationally by BBC Persian, RAI 3, NPO, Omrop Fryslân, She previously served as Coordinator of the Herat International Women’s Film Festival and has also served as a jury member at several international film festivals. — read more
